It has been already two years and I got five units to show for it... (which still need some greenery and flags). Depending on the scale of battle these would represent the Bishop of Utrecht with household knights and infantry or the bishop with his knights and the three battailes of the city guard of Utrecht and the "schutterij" (schooters). As kings and feudal lords were expected to fight I have opted to go with cavalry bases for them instead of a mix of cavalry and men on foot. All command bases will have one livery, to make them easier to distuingish from normal knights. |
[Project] The Low Countries in the 13th centurydourpuritan 27th Apr 2026 01:37:53 Again this sounds very interesting. I think there might be a couple of Dutch or Belgian TV series set in this period, plus some bits and pieces on YouTube. Most of my info comes from "A Concise History of the Netherlands - one volume covering the Stoneage to aproximately 2015 so quite brief info. Needed to try and get a general idea of Dutch history as I am an immigrant. A little goes a long way |

I am not really familiar with any myself (I haven't really watched TV in a long while), I know of an old black and white series about Floris V of Holland my parents watched as kids. In primary school I read a book about Witte van Haemstede, a bastard of Floris, who supposedly served at Muiderslot. It was set during the abduction of Floris by disassified nobles on behest of Edward I (because Floris began supporting the French). (also interesting note, Floris was one of the claimants for the Scottisch throne). There is also an interesting podcast about the Burgundian's, in Dutch (there is a Dutch and English book about it. I still haven't decided between getting the original Dutch copy or the English). |
